Print Competition Preparation Tips
- Prints entered must be mounted on 16x20 mat board, Double-weight or Foam board.
- The thickness of the mounting should be between 1/8 and 3/8 inch (we will be flexible for informal salon entries)
- Prints can be 16x20 full-bleed, traditionally matted with mat board or have a digital “flush” matting. The image should not be smaller than a 8x10.
- Remember your images will be judged under bright lights, so it is a good idea to make sure your blacks are “true” black and that your highlights are not blown out. When in doubt, print a smidge darker.
- The “Rule of Thirds” often applies to how to position your image on the matting as well. Be sure to try it!
- To see trouble “hotspots” look at your print upside down. If you eye goes somewhere other than where you want it, do a little digital magic to bring it down.
- Labels (attached) should be taped top-center on the back of your 16x20.
- Tear sheets are encouraged for commercial entries and must be enclosed in a clear plastic sleeve or envelope and be attached (without metal clasps or clips) to the back of the print.
- Only one storybook or portrait album per entrant will be accepted, and it must be a minimum of 5x5 inches.
- No studio logo, signature or information should be visible on the entry.
- Album entry forms should be attached on the inside of the back cover.
- The New Case Fee is $10 for informal salon, $20 for formal salon! Whoo Hoo!
